The beauty of the moon surely can amaze men on earth. Flying to the moon can be the greatest thing which people can do. It must be a great experience if they can do this. It was a dream for human being but there were some people who were successful stepping on the moon surface. One thing for sure, the moon that people were imagined was completely different from the real. That is why we need to learn more about the moon facts.
Only Natural Satellite
The planets can have satellite and they can have more than one. However, if we are talking about the natural satellite of the earth, there is no doubt that the one and only natural satellite is the moon. As natural satellite, the moon can be considered as the space body which orbits the planet earth. However, natural satellite does not only orbit the planet because it can also orbit the asteroid or the object which looks like planet.
Measurement
There are some planets in the solar system. Most planets have natural satellite. Compared to other natural satellite in the solar system, the moon is the fifth largest one. Between the moon and the earth, there is about 384,403 kilometers average distance. The moon orbit takes 27.3 days to finish each time.
The Sides of the Moon
Because the moon rotation is similar to the orbit time, men on earth can only see about 60 percents of the surface. Near side is the side which we can see from the earth while far side is the other side. Far side is called dark side of the moon although actually it also gets the same illumination from the sun. From earth, we see the smooth surface of the moon but it is not that smooth after all. It has mountains and craters. Extreme temperature between night and day can be found on the moon. The day time is very hot while the night time is very cold. Actually the look of the far side is pretty different from the near side of the moon.
Mission to the Moon
Luna program by the Soviet Union was successful for landing the unmanned spacecraft for the very first time on the moon surface in 1966. The space program for landing man on the moon was successfully done for the very first time by NASA Apollo 11 mission by the USA in 1969. Neil Armstrong was the first man who stepped on the moon.
