Recently, new species of crabs which have small rounded-eyes is founded. What make its interesting is that this crab is given the name which known to be the combination of characters name in Harry Potter written by J.K Rowling. The name of this new crab species actually is the mix of Harry Potter and Professor Severus Snape. The crab which is called as Harryplax severus lived inside the death coral fraction alongside Guam Beach in the west Pacific Ocean. The unique name of the crab is given by the “collector hero” Harry Conley, the first person which find that crab. Yet, he does not realize the importance of that discovering.
Alas, he died in 2002 due to a shoot in his head when he is fighting. His discovery has been known 20 years after he gone. The crab species he found is quite unique and now it interest a lot of people. This crab species have small-sized eyes and pale skin which makes it looks like albino. This small animal spends most of their time in the darkness. This species is given the name to respect Professor Severus Snape, the person who keeps the most important secret in the story. The biological experts from National University of Singapore consist of Jose Mendoza and Peter NG stated that this new species had been missed from the discovery until now and it is almost 20 years after it is firstly encountered.
Conley is known to find this new crab species in 1998 to 2001. He was portrayed by the researcher as an ex-marine soldier who has strong desire and golden heart. They stated that their substantial modern efforts give great impact in marine world. When Conley died in 2002, the samples founded during the expedition was all given to Peter Ng. Among the samples, there are two yellow crabs which represent new genus is founded. From both researches, Dr. Mendoza claimed himself as Potterhead so that he did not want to miss any chance of giving the name to the crabs for the sake of his favourite fiction character.
This new crab species is small crabs with less of one centimetre both for its length and width. It can be founded inside the coral ruins or beneath the subtidal stone, and even the coral holes. To survive in the darkness, this species evolves by reducing the size of eyes, having antenna, and thin legs. This species is known to exist in Guam Island now. This fact follow the discovery of new spider species founded in Western Ghats Island, India which looks like the sorting hat in famous “Harry Potter” story.
